Franz Ferdinand: over a decade of unbroken critical and commercial success

Since their initial calling card - 2002 debut single "Darts Of Pleasure" - Alex Kapranos (singer/guitarist), Nick McCarthy (guitarist), Bob Hardy (bass) and Paul Thomson (drums) have gone on to become one of the UK's most well-known bands; regularly taking centre stage on NME covers, headlining festivals up and down the country, and commanding of an army of loyal fans here and around the world. The band's self-titled debut album - all spiky guitar riffs and dance-tastic melodies - featured worldwide smash hit "Take Me Out", won the 2004 Mercury Prize and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, while critically acclaimed follow up You Could Have It So Much Better featured top 40 singles "Do You Want To", "The Fallen", "Walk Away" and "Eleanor Put Your Boots On."

2009's Tonight peaked and number two in the UK (and was a chart topper in other countries) while 2013's Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action took the band's unbroken record of commercial and critical success into a second decade. After briefly teaming up with Sparks under the name FFS, Franz Ferdinand returned (though without the departed Nick McCarthy) and released 2018 album Always Ascending, which peaked at number three in the group's native Scotland and number six in the UK.
