Status Quo legend and frontman
Recognised for his signature ponytail as well as being lead singer and guitarist for British rock band Status Quo, Rossi has enjoyed incredible success with the band, as well as embarking on a solo career on top. The band sold 118 million records worldwide, released around 30 studio albums and performed to sold out venues across the world. In 1985, the same year that the group opened the Wembley leg of Live Aid, he recorded his first solo track, Modern Romance. In 1996, he released his debut LP, King of the Doghouse, and in 2010, he received an OBE for services to music and undertook his first ever solo tour, which was released as a live album. Born in London in 1949, singer-songwriter and guitarist Rossi and his school mates Alan Lancaster, Alan Key and Jess Jaworski formed a band that they first called the Scorpions, and then changed to the Spectres, replacing Jaworski with John Coghlan. In 1965, they met Rick Parfitt and changed their name to Traffic Jam, before finally settling on Status Quo in 1967. The band enjoyed enormous success and they also appeared on the Band Aid charity single Do They Know It's Christmas alongside the likes of U2 and Bob Geldof. Rossi released a number of solo singles, including Give Myself to Love, and he also appeared on the soundtrack to All This and World War II, which was made up of cover versions of The Beatles songs. He also produced and played guitar on John Du Cann's The World's Not Big Enough solo album.
