Located in the city of Denver, which has an elevation of 5,280 feet, Empower Field at Mile High is home to the Denver Broncos. It officially opened in 2001, replacing the old Mile High Stadium, which had been around for more than 50 years. Empower Field was previously named Broncos Stadium at Mile High, Invesco Field at Mile High and then Sports Authority Field at Mile High before the Empower organization bought the naming rights in 2019. In addition to being host to NFL games, the stadium is where the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse play their home games. In the past, it has been the venue of the state championships for high school football as well as where the Colorado State University Rams have taken the football field against their rivals, the University of Colorado Buffaloes. Where exactly is the stadium located?
The stadium is located on the northwest corner of the intersection between Interstate 25 and Highway 70/West Colfax. It's on the other side of the South Platte River from Downtown Denver, standing tall amongst the less-prominent residential and commercial buildings in the neighborhood.
What are the transportation options?
Many people walk or bike to the stadium, and depending on the origin, this can be the fastest and most convenient way to get there. Those traveling from afar can drive. There are paid parking lots located north and south of the stadium. A total of 6,500 spaces are located on-site, with 12,000 more in nearby off-site properties. For those taking light rail, there is a stop right at the stadium, part of the C, E and W RTD lines, as well as one a short walk away at the Decatur-Federal Station, part of the W line. In addition, the Federal Shuttle runs along Federal Boulevard during game days, and the BroncosRide shuttle travels back and forth between the stadium and select park-and-ride lots throughout Denver.
What types of restaurants are at the stadium?
A wide variety of food is available. Some examples of restaurants are Legends Grille, which serves pulled pork, chicken fingers, and cheese dogs; Mile High Pie, which serves jumbo pizza slices; Blitz Burger Grille, which has a range of burgers, including veggie burgers; and Cover 2 Cavery, a place known for its roast beef, turkey and ham.
