Whyte vs Browne: Dillian Whyte and Lucas Browne to settle long-running feud at The O2 on 24 March
Brixton's Dillian Whyte is to finally settle his rivalry with Lucas Browne in a heavyweight grudge fight at London's O2 on 24 March. Whyte, who has said he "hates" Browne and "can't wait to hurt him", is prepared to put his title, number one ranking with the governing body, and a shot at WBC champion Deontay Wilder on the line to end a long and bitter spat with the Australian.
Browne, though, holds genuine world title ambitions of his own and 'Big Daddy' has vowed to produce another knockout win in his sixth fight on British soil. The 38-year-old is unbeaten in 25 professional fights – 22 of which have been by knockout – and has enjoyed past trips to Britain; beating the likes of Richard Towers and Andriy Rudenko.
Adding to what has already been one of the most ferocious and ill-tempered build-ups to a fight in recent memory, Browne said: "I'm genuinely looking forward to coming over to the UK again and bashing Dillian. If Helenius and Dereck Chisora hurt him, wait until he feels how I hit. I don't like anything about him. He's a loud mouth and I want to take his head off."
Will Whyte remain on course for a shot at one of the world champions? Or can Lucas Browne derail his younger foe's ambitions? Find out when you buy Dillian Whyte vs Lucas Browne tickets at StubHub UK.
Dillian Whyte vs Lucas Browne: "Browne is a deluded bully," claims Whyte
Dillian Whyte is undefeated in six since defeat to current WBA "super" and IBF heavyweight Anthony Joshua in December 2015 and, should he beat Lucas Browne, Whyte – known as 'The Body Snatcher' – has his sights on WBC king Deontay Wilder next; with the ultimate goal to land the title and set up a huge unification rematch with old foe Anthony Joshua.
"Beating Browne should make me a mandatory challenger for a world title. I'm highly ranked across the board. I'll be a more than credible world title challenger. I've been building my way up, so we're set for a big year," said Whyte.
"Lucas Browne kept throwing things in the way to put the fight off, so it's good that he's finally manned-up and taken the fight," the Brixton fighter claimed.
"He's a dangerous opponent, former WBA 'Regular' champion, he is undefeated and has never tasted defeat before. He is a very deluded guy, so that makes him very dangerous. I met Lucas Browne a few years ago when Tyson Fury was fighting and I just didn't like the way he looked, his whole demeanour.
"He just seems like a big bully and I don't like bullies. That was the moment I said to myself 'I would like to fight this guy one day', and ever since then he's been on my radar. He's said a lot of controversial things on the internet so I want to get him in the ring and punish him. I am glad he's accepted this fight."
Yet, veteran Browne is showing no signs of intimidation.
"I have absolutely no fears about coming to London and facing Dillian. After you go to Chechnya to fight, nothing else compares. I've fought in England five times already and love fighting there. I know if I stop Whyte impressively I'll be getting another world title shot."
