This ballad writing star first ventured onto the music scene under a very different guise to the soft-hearted soloist we know now as one fifth of rock band Juniper in the early 90s. The group met in school and formed the group before releasing their debut EP Manna in 1995. The band enjoyed moderate success with singles like 'Weatherman' before disbanding.

After a stint as a Tuscan farmer Rice returned to the UK music scene in 2001 after having passed a demo to his cousin/music producer. Music fans first realised there was something special happening upon the release of his debut single 'The Blower's Daughter'. A year later saw the release of his debut album O which incredibly soared to Number 8 on the UK albums chart before going on to win the Shortlist Music Prize. He secured his position as an acoustic romantic with further hit singles like 'Cannonball' and 'Volcano'.
