Culture Club: new tour, new music
Comprising iconic singer Boy George, bassist Mikey Craig, guitarist and keyboard player Roy Hay and drummer Jon Moss, Culture Club formed in London in 1981 and would go on to become British new romantic legends. Choosing their name because of the diversity of their members, the group's debut album Kissing to be Clever was a hit, but it was their second album, 1983's Colour By Numbers that made them superstars. It featured their biggest hit, the seminal "Karma Chameleon", which was a number one smash in the UK and around the globe; from Australia and Canada and South Africa to Sweden.
The album sold more than ten million copies and, in 1984, Culture Club were awared the BRIT Award for Best British Group and landed Grammy gongs in the US. Their initial phase was short-lived, though, with George's drug addiction and unpredictable behavour off-stage derailing the group in 1986. They reunited from 1998-2002, taking in several tours and playing a 20th anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Boy George's successful DJ career meant those early re-unions were short-lived, but the group got back together full-time in 2014 before playing a massive 40-city summer tour in 2016. A new album – Tribes – was announced, then shelved, but is expected to finally be released in 2018.
