Based in Southampton, Creeper is a punk rock band that was formed in 2014. As their name suggests, the band members are interested in horror, and much of their music takes inspiration from that genre of movies and books. The band has been lauded by a good many of the UK's music critics as being among the best new rock bands in recent years. Since their formation, Creeper has won a Kerrang! magazine award, as well as being given a Golden Gods Award by Metal Hammer in 2016.
Creeper's early years
Creeper was founded by Will Gould and Ian Miles, both vocalists who had been together in another band named Our Time Down Here. The duo hooked up with Sean Scott on bass and Dan Bratton on drums. Gould played the guitar and a second guitarist by the name of Sina Nemati was added. As a quintet, the band began gigging in 2014 and were soon headlining their own shows around Southampton. In September of that year, Creeper played their first show in London in support of the notable Welsh act Funeral for a Friend.
In June of their first year as a band, Creeper released their debut EP. The eponymously titled work was re-released by Palmer Records as a limited edition 12-inch vinyl record in December. Gould, Miles and Nemati all had writing credits on the EP and the song “Gloom” was given a promotional video. This track was also included on a compilation CD, named Rock Sound 100% Volume #192, which was made available in October.
Creeper's lineup changes and later recordings
In 2015, the band toured the UK alongside Moose Blood and Misfits. A second EP, The Callous Heart, followed. However, in December of that year, Nemati quit the band. The group's part-time keyboard player, Hannah Greenwood, subsequently became a full-time member. Creeper also recruited Oliver Burdett on guitar. It was only after Nemati's departure that a third EP appeared. This was called The Stranger and achieved a chart position of 130. One song, “Valentine”, had been co-written by Nemati but all of the others were joint works by Gould and Miles.
Among the highlights of Creeper's live performances in 2016 were triumphant sets performed at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. That year also saw the band's debut full-length album. Entitled Eternity, In Your Arms, it was released on the Roadrunner label. This work topped the UK Rock & Metal charts and achieved a high of number 18 in the UK-wide charts. The third song on the album, “Suzanne”, was chosen for a promotional video.
