Get to Know the Chiba Lotte Marines
The history of the Marines goes back to 1950 and the creation of Japanese baseball's Pacific League. Back then, the team was known as the Mainichi Orions, however it changed its name as often as it changed city in the first couple decades of its existence, including 'Tokyo Orions' and 'Lotte Orions', before settling in Chiba City, Tokyo, as the Chiba Lotte Marines. Along the way, the Orions won the 1950 Japan Series and lost two others, one each in '60 and '70. The Marines join teams such as Chunichi Dragons, Fukuoka Softbank Hawks and Hanshin Tigers in pursuit of Japanese baseball's ultimate prize. 2005 proved to be a year of great significance for the Marines and their fans. With ex-New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine at the helm, the team won the Pacific League pennant, went on to beat the Hanshin Tigers to complete the double and win their third Japan Series crown. They then defeated South Korea's Samsung Lions in the Konami Cup and captured the Asia Series crown to record a historic treble. Watch the Marines as they fight for another. Join the Marines at a Matchday near You
In 2012, Chiba Lotte Marines fans celebrated the opening of The Marines Museum, featuring memorabilia, jerseys, photos, awards and, of course, trophies representing the team's glory years as well as its well-travelled history. The museum is situated near the team's official merchandise store and is free for fans and visitors alike. In 2017, the team introduced a controversial new mascot (a regurgitating anglerfish) that went instantly viral) while the team sat in last place, which is where that season ended. The Chiba Lotte Marines play ball at Zozo Marine Stadium, previously the QVC Marine Stadium, which holds about 30,000 spectators - most of whom dress in the traditional black and white during home games. There the 'Kamome' (Gulls) are keen to cheer the team on to victory, visit the merchandise shop and support their favourite team heroes before and after the game. Spending a night at the ball-park is great fun for the entire family, so join the crowds at a match of your choice. Chiba Lotte Marines tickets are available now for purchase or sale via StubHub.
