Body Count – a head banging experience

Body Count was formed in Los Angeles in 1990, co-founded by frontman and rapper Ice-T with Ernie C, who was the lead guitarist. The two wrote the lyrics and music to the band’s song, listing Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Edgar Winter as some of their influences. The original members also included D-Roc, who played rhythm guitar, Mooseman, who played the bass, and Beatmaster V on the drums. One of Body Count’s first performances was at the Lollapalooza Festival in 1991, where the band joined Ice-T for part of his solo set. They then released their debut self-titled album in 1992 and started touring internationally, which helped them gain international fame. In 1996, band member Beatmaster V passed away due to leukaemia, and this was the start of an era of multiple changes in band members. Body Count eventually went on a 2-year hiatus, but started playing and releasing music again in 2009. One of their most successful albums was Born Dead, which was released in 1994 and reached 5th position in the charts in Australia, Austria and Germany and 15th position in the UK. The single of the same name also had a consistent presence in the charts, reaching the top 30 in the UK.
