The National: new album and 2017 UK tour
These days, The National are celebrated for being one of the greatest live acts of all time, but it's easy to forget their long and slow rise to the top. Straddling the genres of country and alternative music, the critically acclaimed five piece emerged in the late 1990s to gain a cult following on both sides of the Atlantic. Based in Brooklyn, they cultivated their legion of fans off the back of dark, whisky-soaked Americana albums such as Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers and High Violet.
The consistent high quality of their output coupled with exhaustive touring efforts has seen the group become a massive commercial successful, with the Grammy nominated album Trouble Will Find Me soaring into the Top 10 in the US, Canada and the UK in 2013. The band's hugely anticipated seventh album Sleep Well Beast is set to be released on 8 September, with lead single "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness" as poignant and angsty as ever.
After again thrilling crowds with a brilliant set of classics and new material - including upcoming album tracks "Walk It Back", "Turtleneck" and "Day I Die" – during their headline slot at this year's Glastonbury, the band will now see out the rest of 2017 with a UK tour.
The lads will play 11 shows around the UK and Ireland throughout September, including Manchester, London and Edinburgh. They'll also stop at Dublin and Cork too – meaning fans both sides of the Irish Sea will have a chance to see The National perform live, so make sure you grab The National tickets at StubHub UK today.
The National: nostalgia and melancholy never sounded so good
Forming in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1999, The National released their self-titled debut album before they had even played a single show. Characterised by the grizzly bass-baritone vocal power of lead singer Matt Berninger (who shares the same vocal range as Frank Sinatra), it didn't take long for the act to captivate a horde of fervent followers. Blending authentic American country music with a healthy dose of rock 'n' roll, their melancholic albums Alligator (2005) and Boxer (2007) made them firm favourites of the music press.
Fifth album High Violet catapulted the band to superstardom in 2010, encouraging them to further indulge in their signature sound on 2013's Grammy nominated Trouble Will Find Me. The album was a huge commercial and critical success, with tracks like "I Need My Girl" and "Don't Swallow the Cap" becoming signature songs of their live sets.
