Destined for songwriting success
The origins of the band begin in 2004 with founding members Maarten Delvodere, Patricia Vanneste and Jinte Deprez, who, at the age of 18, won the Dutch Kunstbende competition with their song Lost and Found. The competition aims to showcase the best in young talent across the nation, offering the chance to perform at a prestigious festival as its main prize. Delvodere, Vanneste and Deprez also won a similar rock contest called Westtalent in the same year, based in their home region of West Flanders, Belgium. After a hugely successful start, Balthazar hit the road with a debut EP in 2006, before releasing their first single This is a Flirt in July of the following year. Among numerous other well-received singles, the band began playing outside of Belgium, gaining a significant following in France, the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. All this before the arrival of debut album Applause in 2010. Produced by Maarten Delvodere, the record earned them a Music Industry Award and a bunch of packed out crowds at that years Pukkelpop and Dour Festival. Now's your chance to experience this phenomenal band at the height of their powers as they continue to take Europe, and now the world, by storm. Intoxicating performances and fun-lovin' vibes
Balthazar took to Los Angeles to record their second album Rats, which was again produced by Delvodere with the assistance of Jinte Deprez and mixed by Devendra Banhart and The Strokes collaborator Noah Georgeson. Once more, the release was widely recognised, described by the French media as the best release of 2012. Balthazar went on to employ Blur and Depeche Mode producer Ben Hillier for their third album Thin Walls, which extended their European reach and marked them at the forefront of indie pop on the continent. A simple, euphoric, dreadfully catchy sound, this is feel-good music that's all about having a good time and there's nothing quite like a good time with Balthazar live on stage, so make sure you don't miss out by buying or selling Balthazar tickets through StubHub now!
