The O2 in London welcomes the world’s top tennis players again this November as it plays host to the ATP World Tour Finals for a ninth consecutive year. The indoor hard court event is the last in the tennis calendar and sees the eight top ranking singles players and doubles teams compete for a share of $8m.
British tennis fans will be hoping that 2016 champion Andy Murray is fit enough to return from the hip injury that has hampered him throughout 2017, while the resurgent Australian Open champion Roger Federer will have his eye on regaining a title he last won in 2011. Despite that barren run, the Swiss is still the event’s most decorated player; winning the title six times (Peter Fleming and John McEnroe hold the doubles record with seven titles).
Former world number one and defeated 2016 finalist Novak Djokovic will be hoping to return to the tournament after pulling out through injury in 2017 (likewise Stan Wawrinka), while the world number one and US Open champion Rafa Nadal – no stranger to injuries himself – goes in search of a first title at this event.

Unlike all other singles events on the men's tour, the ATP World Tour Finals is not a straightforward knock-out tournament. Instead, eight players are divided into two groups of four and play three round-robin matches each against the other players in their group. The two players with the best records in each group progress to the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final.
Though it is theoretically possible to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament with two round-robin losses, no player in the history of the singles tournament has won the title after losing more than one round-robin match. All singles matches are the best of three tie-break sets, including the final. All doubles matches are two sets and a match tie-break.
The eight seeds are determined by the ATP rankings and ATP Doubles team rankings on the Monday after the last ATP World Tour tournament of the calendar year (the 2018 Paris Masters).
The ATP World Tour Finals is the second highest tier of men's tennis tournament after the four Grand Slam tournaments (The Australian Open; The French Open; Wimbledon and The US Open). In the current tournament, winners are awarded up to 1500 rankings points; with each round-robin loss, 200 points are deducted from that amount.
After booking your tickets to the ATP World Tour Finals, why not see if you can get seats at Wimbledon or the Davis Cup at StubHub UK too?
