Arctic Monkeys: Sheffield legends return to the UK in 2018 with new album and tour dates
Since bursting on to the scene with their record-breaking debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, the Arctic Monkeys have enjoyed almost unbroken critical and commercial success for well over a decade. Winners of six BRIT Awards (including Best British Group and Best British Album three times), the Arctic Monkeys back catalogue is one of the most revered in music history; scoring five consecutive UK number ones and topping the charts across the globe. Added to that, front man Alex Turner has written some of the catchiest songs and memorable guitar riffs of the 21st century, including "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", "When the Sun Goes Down", "Fluorescent Adolescent", "Crying Lightning" and "R U Mine?".
Even by their own lofty standards, fifth album AM (released 2013) was a remarkable success for the Arctic Monkeys. Led by the singles "Do I Wanna Know?" and "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" AM proved to be another critical and commercial hit, with the record reaching top spot across Europe and earning the group some of the finest reviews of their career so far.
Now, in 2018, the rock group have returned with another much-lauded album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino which was released on 10 May. And that's not all, the group has also announced a UK tour for September in support of the new record. Arctic Monkeys, joined by Long Island rockers The Lemon Twigs, will be performing in Manchester, Sheffield, London, Birmingham and Dublin. Don't miss out! Buy Arctic Monkeys tickets now at StubHub.
Arctic Monkeys: record-breaking hit makers
After befriending each other at school, Alex Turner and chums formed the Arctic Monkeys in the early 2000s. The group are widely regarded as one of the first bands to come to public attention via the internet, with debut album tracks such as "Mardy Bum", "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", "Fake Tales of San Francisco", "Dancing Shoes", "Still Take You Home", "Riot Van", "When the Sun Goes Down" and "A Certain Romance" all being released for free online in late 2004.
With anticipation surrounding the band's debut album reaching almost fever pitch, the Arctic Monkeys released Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not in January 2006. The record was an unprecedented success; becoming the fastest-selling debut album by a band in British chart history, going four-times platinum, and establishing the group as an almost-instant worldwide success.
Four more UK number one albums have followed: Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009), Suck It and See (2011) and AM (2013); along with multiple awards and headline slots at any festival of their choosing.
