Architects: dark, heavy, energetic metal

Brighton based five piece Architects burst onto the hardcore scene with their debut album Nightmares. The group's original vocalist was Matt Johnson, but he was soon replaced by current lead singer Sam Carter, who completed a line-up featuring bassist Ali Dean, guitarists Adam Christianson and Tom Searle and drummer Dan Searle. In 2016, Josh Middleton joined the group, replacing primary songwriter and founding member Tom Searle, who sadly died on 20 August after a three-year battle with skin cancer.

While the group's records have often seen them drift between dark metalcore and post-hardcore, the band's material is most often a statement of contemporary disillusionment, frustration with politics and a channeling of anger. Fiercely independent, the quintet shun mainstream attentions and ambitions to create music that is both meaningful and thought provoking and, despite their lack of major record label backing, have notched up two top 20 UK albums. 

After signing with Epitaph Records (owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz), the band issued Lost Forever // Lost Together in 2014, which reached the UK top 20 and charted on the US Billboard 200 for the first time in the band's career. Carter's ear-shredding vocals were then notched up to their finest on latest records All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us (2016) and Holy Hell (2018), which have been hailed as their darkest work to date.
