Albuquerque Isotopes Tickets
The Albuquerque Isotopes began to play in 2003 when the team relocated from Calgary, Canada, where they had been known as the Cannons. As the Cannons, the franchise had been in existence since 1985. The team name is a reference to an episode of the TV show "The Simpsons." In the episode, the city of Albuquerque is trying to lure away the fictional team known as the Springfield Isotopes. When it was announced that the team would be awarded to Albuquerque, it was decided that they wanted to incorporate the episode. The Isotopes were initially the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. They made the playoffs in the 2003 season but then didn't return until 2009 when they were an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Isotopes returned to the playoffs in 2012 but haven't made it back since. In 2015, the Colorado Rockies became the parent organization and have been connected to Albuquerque since then. While the team has never had a winning record as an affiliate of the Rockies, the fan base continues to be loyal. 2020 will be Warren Schaeffer's first season as the manager of the Triple-A Isotopes. Schaeffer has spent the last five years as the manager of the Rockies Single-A and Double-A affiliates. Schaeffer took the Single-A Asheville Tourists to the South Atlantic League Championship Series and is coming off a 2019 season with the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats where he led the team to a record of 73-66. Schaeffer retired after a six-year career spent entirely within the Rockies minor league farm system. Schaeffer replaces Glenallen Hill, who was the only manager for the Isotopes since they became affiliated with the Rockies in 2015. Hill never posted a winning record as a manager but had a 60-80 record in 2019, the 15th-best record in the Pacific Coast League.Where are the Albuquerque Isotopes games played?
The Isotopes play at Isotope Park. The 13,279-seat stadium opened in 2003 when the team relocated to New Mexico from Canada. Not only does Isotope Park offer traditional ballpark-style seating, there is also a picnic area beyond the left-field wall and a picnic area on a grassy hillside beyond the right-field fence. While all baseball stadiums have some of the traditional ballpark foods, Isotope Park also offers some traditional Mexican foods as well.Do the Albuquerque Isotopes have any rivals?
While the Isotopes have established a healthy divisional rivalry with the Salt Lake Bees, their primary rival is the El Paso Chihuahuas. The Chihuahuas are geographically the closest team to the Isotopes in addition to being divisional opponents. It's also worth noting that the Chihuahuas are the Triple-A affiliate for the San Diego Padres, who are a divisional rival of the Colorado Rockies. Are there any former Albuquerque Isotopes in Major League Baseball?
Some of the premier names in Major League Baseball have spent time with the Isotopes.
