Formerly known as the Greater Greensboro Open and taking place in the spring[ the event has been sponsored by Wyndham since 2007 and now takes place annually in mid-August. The tournament has been a golf tradition since 1938, and historic winners include Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Seve Ballesteros, Ben Hogan and Gary Player. Who has won the Wyndham Championship in recent years?The 2018 season saw Brandt Snedeker take the win at the Wyndham Championships in Greensboro. He set the course and tournament record with a 59. J.T. Poston won in 2019 with a score of 258, coming in at -22 under par and tying Henrik Stenson's two-year tournament record at 22-under 258 at the Wyndham Championship. The win was Poston’s first PGA Tour victory in the young golfer’s career.

Specifically, Starmount Forest Country Club and Forest Oaks Country Club are previous hosts. The first ever tournament in 1938 was actually held at both Starmount Forest and Sedgefield. More recently, Sedgefield Country Club has been used every year since 2008. In past years, the tournament was known as the Greater Greensboro Open, or "The GGO." The event was also known as the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro before Wyndham purchased the naming rights in 2007.
