Vega: If 80's Rock and Modern Melody-Writing Had a Baby
With the rise of Princess Diana, the beginnings of the Internet, and the discovery of the Titanic, the 1980's were a busy time for all global affairs. Interestingly enough, despite all the political and technological happenings in that decade, it's the music that has kept people reflecting on those times with nostalgia. With their combination of hard rock, pop, and modern vocal styling, Vega is a unique band that has taken the timelessness of 80's rock and added its own twist.
Schedule
Boasting catchy tunes, liberal inspiration from 1980's rock pioneers like Bon Jovi, and modern production values, Vega's high energy music translates well to live shows. Performing in a number of venues this year, the band makes appearances in Europe and the United States during its tour. Stops include London's 'Garage', 'The Academy' in Dublin, and Belfast's 'Limelight'. In short, Vega tickets have never been more in demand.
Trivia
Although the group didn't officially join forces until 2009, the members crossed paths repeatedly before succumbing to fate. It all started when the twins, Tom Martin and James Martin, performed with groups Albion, Kryah, and the Station Club respectively. They met up with Vega vocalist, Nick Workman, in 1999 during another band's farewell tour. Vega's drummer, Dan Chantrey, teamed up with the Martin brothers as drummer for the Station Club and Kryah in 2004. When they all met again in 2009, forming a single band just made too much sense.
Band
Despite knowing each other on a professional basis, Vega didn't become Vega until 2009 when the members met up at that year's Z Rock Festival. To date, the band's main members are vocalist Nick Workman, drummer Dan Chantrey, bassist Tom Martin, keyboardist James Martin, and guitarist Marcus Thurston.
Breakthrough
It isn't often that a new band forms and is showered with praise from both fans and critics, but that's exactly what happened with Vega. After getting together during the 2009 Z Rock Festival, Vega immediately got to work writing and producing its first album. Although Tom and James Martin had extensive experience performing and song writing for other groups, Nick Workman's stint with the band Kick compelled the group to put the vocalist in charge of the melodies and lyrics. The final product was Kiss of Life. As it turned out, the critics loved it, the band kept writing, and after a well-received tour in the UK, the rest has been history.
Hit Albums
In a sense, every album has been a hit album for Vega. After releasing its first album, Kiss of Life, to great critical acclaim, the band almost immediately went to work on its follow-up. While maintaining momentum from the debut, Vega built on its initial success with the release of What the Hell! Riding on the strength of its successful single in "White Knuckle Ride," What the Hell! impressed fans with its risk-taking and its high energy pacing. The band has been taking the rock and roll world by storm ever since and expects to continue doing so with the newest album, Studio Messiah.
Show Experience
Even before Vega became the band it is today, its members had extensive stage experience. First there's Tom Martin and James Martin. During their forays with Kryah, the Station Club, and Albion, they got a lot of practical song writing and live stage experience. Similarly, Nick Workman as a performer in both Kick and Eden, had roughly 8 years of stage experience prior to joining Vega.
When a band with decades of combined experience gets on stage, fans are well within their right to expect electric performances. Noted especially for the way that their studio music translates into infectious, crowd-pleasing live shows, every penny put towards Vega tickets is money well-spent for rock aficionados and casual fans alike.
