Dave Grohl originally formed the Foo Fighters as a solo project in 1994, after Nirvana disbanded following the untimely death of Kurt Cobain. Naming the project after the group of allied aircraft pilots who reported UFOs during World War II, the Ohio native decided to put down his drum sticks and pick up his first instrumental love - the guitar. Using song writing as a vessel for his pent-up emotions following the death of Cobain, Grohl quickly produced a fiery fifteen track demo that attracted interest from major labels. Not wanting to go at it alone, he recruited the rest of the band and the rest is history.

By 1997, their sophomore album The Colour and The Shape had cemented the act as a radio staple, spawning classic hard rock hits like 'Monkey Wrench' and 'My Hero'. In 1999, their follow-up album There is Nothing Left to Lose soared to triumph, producing the US Billboard Chart topping track 'Learn to Fly' and fan-favourite 'Best of You'. Their signature album, One by One, fashioned some of their most iconic songs in 2002, including 'Times Like These' and 'All My Life'. They have continued to storm the charts with their flawless back catalogue, cementing their status as one of the greatest stadium rock acts of all time.
