Tom Grennan: super raw singer-songwriter

First finding fame as the guest vocalist on Chase & Status's track When It All Goes Wrong in 2017, singer-songwriter Tom Grennan has since gone on to appear on Radio 1's Live Lounge and on BBC Two's Later... with Jools Holland. Though a promising teen footballer - Grannan played for Luton, Northampton Town, Aston Villa and Stevenage - the 20-year-old put music ahead of sport and released debut EP Something In The Water in 2017.

Part of a trio of EPs released that year (Release the Brakes and Found What I've Been Looking For being the other two) Something In The Water was produced by Charlie Hugall (Florence + The Machine, The Maccabees), and the record's title track reached number one on music blog aggregator Hype Machine after a significant amount of airplay on Grennan's home radio station BBC Music Introducing in Beds, Herts, & Bucks. Born in Bedford but based in London, early fans may recall seeing Grennan gigging around the capital with his acoustic guitar while at university.

Tom Grennan: debut album in 2018

It was almost so different for Tom Grennan and his fans. Instead of listening to him at venues across London, they might have been cheering him on from the stands of Luton's Kenilworth Road, Villa Park, or even further afield. 

"I was close to playing over in the States but something was telling me not to and obviously it was the music," he told Music Week in 2017. 

"My head was turned by music and people saying I had a voice!"

Thankfully for his growing army of fans, 2018 began with the catchy single "Sober" (and not an MLS fixture), and Grennan's debut album Lighting Matches followed in July 2018.
