The Thorns Biography - Sparkling Harmonies, Great Tunes

The three critically lauded solo artists Matthew Sweet, Pete Droge and Shawn Mullins decided to form a band in the early 2000s, mixing their wealth of shared influenced including The Beach Boys and Gram Parsons. The trio began penning songs and spent a great deal of time in their Atlanta recording studio with their producer Brenden O'Brien, layering Sweet's shimmering guitar work and roaring harmonies over the top of Jimi Keltner's rhythm.

The group released their eponymous debut album in May 2003 and they attracted immediate attention from the wider music press, drawing comparisons with the sunny, harmonious music of classic bands like Fleetwood Mac and CSN. With a host of celebrated admirers, the group came back from hiatus to join up with fledgling luminary artist John Mayer on his arena tour.
