Formed in 2007, the Revivalists are an American seven-piece rock outfit. They are from New Orleans in Louisiana and blend some articulate lyricism with rocking rhythms that are highly danceable. A proven live act, as so many bands in New Orleans need to be, the Revivalists are able to go down as well as when they are performing to a youthful indie-kid crowd in their hometown or playing some of the bigger stages they now grace when on tour.
The lineup of the Revivalists makes them stand out from many of the rock bands currently operating in the United States. Firstly, two full-time members are wind players. Rob Ingraham plays the saxophone, while Michael Girardot switches between trumpet and keyboards. George Gekas and Andrew Campanelli make up the rhythm section, playing the bass guitar and drums respectively. The rest of the lineup consists of David Shaw as lead vocalist, Zack Feinberg, a guitarist, and Ed Williams, another guitar player. The band is perhaps best known for its 2016 song "Wish I Knew You", which reached the top spot in the Adult Alternative Songs chart.
Zack Feinberg met frontman David Shaw by accident while Shaw was singing outside his home. Having chatted for a while, the two set about making music. Under a week later, an early incarnation of the band played their first gig in New Orleans. A self-released album entitled The Revivalists appeared in May 2008 and was received very well by local radio stations.
Following the early concerts and the initial positivity surrounding their first release, the group went on to record their debut album. Another self-funded project, Vital Signs was produced by Chris Finney in the studio. It was made available for digital download as well as CD. Following this, the group were signed to Wind-up Records, based in New York City, which had a distribution deal with Universal Music Group.
The band went on to make another album, by the name of City of Sound. This was re-released by their new label in 2014, with a second disc that contained a lot of bonus material. In fact, the reissued version of the album had over an hour of the Revivalists’ live recordings on it, alongside the studio work.
The band's most successful album to date was released in 2015. Called Men Amongst Mountains, it reached number four in the US Heatseekers album chart. Two singles were taken from the album. “Wish I Knew You” was the second of these and the band performed it live on the Today show on NBC, bringing them to the attention of a much wider audience.
