The Rasmus Biography - From School Boys to Rock Stars

The Rasmus began in 1995 whilst the four founding members were still in high school. The group released their first EP in 1995, managing to sell over 1,000 copies in Finland within a few weeks. This success led to a recording contract with Warner Music Finland in early 1996.

The band's 1996 debut album, Peep, was quickly followed by two more EPs, whilst their second album, Playboy, was released in 1997. The offerings resonated with critics, leading to The Rasmus winning an EMMA, the Finnish Grammy equivalent, for Best Newcomer. Following this success, the band began looking for ways to break into the international market. Assisted by producers Martin Hansen and Micke Nord, The Rasmus began to cultivate a more traditional pop-rock sound compared to the funk of their earlier material.

In 2001, the band released their fourth album, Into, which featured notable The Rasmus songs, such as 'F-F-F-Falling'. This album was followed by 2003's Dead Letters,which marked the band's global breakthrough; the accompanying The Rasmus tour was the first to include international concert dates. The album won a plethora of awards, including multiple EMMAs, and helped establish The Rasmus as one of the most globally enduring pop-rock acts of our time.
