Prodigy tour: rave masters return to UK in 2018

Pioneers of the big beat genre, godfathers of rave The Prodigy first emerged on the underground music scene in the early 1990s before going on to achieve mainstream success with number one singles "Firestarter", "Breathe" and "Voodoo People".

Blending elements of techno, jungle, and breakbeat with rock vocal stylings, made the Essex group unique among their peers, while frontman Keith Flint's love of tattoos, body piercings and his energetic stage presence won him fans the world over. Known for their flamboyant live performances, The Prodigy have been touring almost constantly since the release of their sixth studio album The Day is My Enemy and visited the UK for the first time in over two years in 2017.

Prodigy: from underground raves to Glastonbury's main stage

First coming together in the late 1980s, Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill's breakthrough came in 1991 with the release of "Charly". The single became a huge hit in the rave scene and reached number three in the UK charts. The group's debut album Experience was a landmark release in British dance music, certified platinum and produced singles like "Fire/Jericho" and "Out of Space". Their second record showcased a move towards a more hardcore sound, adding electro-industrial and big beat into the mix. Music for the Jilted Generation didn't compromise on its hard dance roots but its rock 'n' roll edge gave it commercial legs. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize but the band still maintained their reluctance to appear on any mainstream music shows.

The 1996 release of "Firestarter" was the band's first vocal track and saw them break the US with a headline slot at Lollapalooza festival. The Fat of the Land dropped a year later and tied in with the group's Glastonbury main stage appearance. The critically acclaimed, worldwide number one went on to cement the band's place as one of the most influential dance acts ever.

After the departure of John Thornhill in 1999, the band replaced the logo on their website with 'We will be back', duly returning in 2002 with new single "Baby's Got a Temper". Album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned followed shortly after, along with a tour that spanned over two years. Fifth album Invaders Must Die saw the band return to their musical roots and produced top five hit "Omen". Most recently, displaying an angry and energetic sound, the product of six years work The Day is My Enemy was released in 2015.

The Prodigy signed a new recording deal with BMG in September 2017, and will tour the UK ahead of an expected album release in late-2018.
