The Lyttelton Theatre: an exciting destination
The complex that is properly called The Royal National Theatre was opened in 1976 and is still one of London's most important performing arts venues. Benefitting from public funding, the building hosts The Olivier Theatre, The Dorfman Theatre and The Lyttelton Theatre, as well as digital learning archives, bars and restaurants, exhibition spaces and other public areas. With an exciting programme of international classic plays, new writing, Shakespeare, comedy and lectures spread across all three venues, you can be assured of finding tickets for The Lyttelton Theatre to suit your personal tastes. Past performances have included two of the National Theatre's most popular productions, "The History Boys" and "War Horse", the latter of which returned for a limited run in 2018 after enjoying unprecedented success in the New London Theatre and on UK and international tours. With repertoire, short runs and one-off productions on the programme, The Lyttelton Theatre is London theatre at its very best.
Good view guaranteed: The Lyttelton Theatre seating plan
One of the most impressive aspects of the venue is the seating plan at The Lyttelton Theatre. The auditorium was designed with an adjustable proscenium arch and has a very spare interior: with no columns, railing or arches to block the view, every seat has an outstanding line of sight and is not far away from the action on stage. The acoustics in the theatre are also very well regarded and with an intimate capacity of 890 seats, the venue offers a truly immersive theatrical experience. Both the stalls and circle are accessible via lift and there are two bars in addition to the various establishments located throughout the National Theatre building. At the heart of London, The Lyttelton Theatre can be easily reached by public transport - the venue also actively encourages the use of bicycles, being proud of its green credentials. The theatre was named for Oliver Lyttelton, who served as the first chairman of the National Theatre, and is a worthy legacy of the man who did so much for the performing arts in Britain.
