Tears for Fears Tickets
Tears for Fears: '80s synthpop sensations announce huge arena tour in 2018 with dates in London, Cardiff, Glasgow and more
One of the leading bands of the New Wave era, critically acclaimed English pop rock act Tears for Fears were one of the first to drive the synthpop sound synonymous with the 1980s. Their catalogue of platinum-selling albums such as The Hurting (1983) and Songs from the Big Chair (1985) were smash hits on both sides of the Atlantic, making them one of the leading lights of the Second British Invasion alongside The Police, Dire Straits and Elvis Costello.
The band will be playing a set packed with classics such as "Shout", "Mad World" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" during a massive arena tour in May 2018, so don't miss out on this rare opportunity to see them live. Get Tears for Fears tickets at StubHub UK now.
Tears for Fears: electro trailblazers back for more
More than just another '80s pop act, electronic trailblazers Tears for Fears swiftly acquired a cult following that endures to this day. Both Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, the band's core members, claimed they had calamitous childhoods growing up in South East England in the 1970s. Rather than self-medicating with alcohol or drugs, they decided to turn their unhappy lives into the inspiration for one of the most hauntingly beautiful debut albums in history.
As well-read individuals interested in different psychologies, Orzabal and Smith named their band after one of Dr Arthur Janov's key concepts within his primal scream theory (which was also a massive influence on John Lennon). The psychologist proclaimed "tears as a replacement for fears", and you can hear his writings echoed throughout the bands critically acclaimed album The Hurting (1983). Even some of the song titles such as "Mad World", "Memories Fade" and "Ideas as Opiates" are taken from Janov's thesis. On one level, the album is one of the many great, melodious synthpop LPs of the '80s, but it is also a subject of myth and curiosity for serious music lovers who delight in analyzing the lyrics.
As well as their platinum-selling debut, they followed up with an equally successful sophomore effort. Songs from the Big Chair (1985) spawned massive hits such as "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout". Despite lineup changes and a brief split in the 1990s, the cult band are still going strong and their back catalogue is an illustrious example of innovative '80s music at its best. Don't miss out on your chance to see the synthpop tastemakers perform live in 2018. Buy Tears for Fears tickets at StubHub UK today.
