The ownership group moved the Thunder to Glens Falls, N.Y., in exchange for the Adirondack Flames coming to Stockton. The franchise now named the Heat had previously won four Calder Cup championships in different cities — three times as the Maine Mariners and once as the Saint John Flames. After arriving in Stockton, the Heat joined the newly created Pacific Division with several other Californian teams. It reached the AHL playoffs in its second ever season. He was also the assistant coach and head coach of the South Carolina Stringrays of the ECHL.
