Sprint Car Racing TicketsThe Sprint Car Series is an exciting showcase for some of the most unique vehicles in the world of professional racing. Featuring high power-to-weight ratios, the super heavy cars compete against each other on a short closed-circuit dirt or paved track. The cars also sometimes feature a large wing on the top to help keep the car moored to the track, particularly on turns. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series is one of the premier sprint car organizations in the United States. Founded in 1978 by former midget racer Ted Johnson, the World of Outlaws was one of the first organizations of its kind. The ASCS, or the American Sprint Car Series, is another popular Sprint racing league. Created in 1992 by Emmett Hahn, it is backed by several regional series. When does the Sprint car racing season usually take place? Each organization maintains its own schedule. The World of Outlaws season starts in early February with the DIRTcar Nationals in Florida and concludes in early November with the World of Outlaws World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. The ASCS also takes place in the same span of time from February to November. New events are held every week during the main racing season. Racers usually earn points for winning an event. The points total is used to determine a champion at the end of the racing season.
What is the format of Sprint car racing? No matter the event or the organization, Sprint racing tends to adhere to the same formula. Each event starts with practice sessions, also known as hot laps, which give the drivers one last opportunity to test out their vehicles before the start of real competition. The qualifying races, which are the earliest stage of competitive races, determine where the drivers will start in the next round, the heat races. The heats are where the competition starts to become fierce. Depending on where drivers finish in the heat races, they either go directly to the feature races, or they go to the last chance races. The top finishers of the last chance will earn a spot in the feature races. The final feature race or races determines the overall champion of the event. The tracks are typically quite small, around a quarter-mile at their shortest. Each race lasts for several laps around the track. In the World of Outlaws, the final race can last for 25 to 40 laps.
What are some popular Sprint car racing destinations?Sprint car races are held all over the country. Popular racing destinations include the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., and the Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Penn.
What are the specs on the Sprint cars?Sprint cars can come in many different sizes, though the standard sprint car weighs at least 1,400 pounds. The methanol-fueled engine produces around 900 horsepower with an RPM in excess of 8,000. Midget cars are smaller versions of the standard sprint cars and produce much less power.
What were the results of the previous season?Brad Sweet and the Kasey Kahne Racing team were the winners of the 2019 World of Outlaws season-ending championship with 16 total victories and 9,998 points. In one of the closest battles in the history of the series, Sweet beat 10-time series champion Donny Schatz by a mere four points. Entering the final race of the season with a two-point difference, Sweet finished in first place, while Schatz was just behind him in second.
