Performers at Shoreline Amphitheatre
Shoreline Amphitheatre History
Since first opening its doors in 1986, Northern California's Shoreline Amphitheatre has become one of the best and most well-known outdoor music venues in the country. The amphitheater was first built on top of an old landfill but that has long been forgotten and will be the last thing on your mind when you are enjoying incredible music on the venue's lush rolling hills and enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. It has been home to several legendary concerts and music festivals over the years and attracts music lovers from all over California to concerts held here. The venue was originally supposed to open with a Grateful Dead show but after Jerry Garcia fell into a coma the date had to be rescheduled.

Shoreline Amphitheatre Seating Layout
Shoreline Amphitheatre is capable of holding 22,500 visitors with 6,500 reserved seats and 16,000 general admission lawn seats. During some festivals, like the Vans Warped Tour, the amphitheater's parking lot is used. During most concerts you will have the option to spread out on the grass and find your own spot and the venue even has lawn chairs available for rent during the concert, or you can choose to pay extra for reserved seats closer to the stage. Either way you are in for a treat when you attend a concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre.
Shortly after Shoreline Amphitheatre opened Steve Winwood flicked a cigarette onto the lawn and started a small fire. During the first year there were issues with a few fires being started. It turned out that this was due to the venue being built on a former landfill and methane gas leaking up from the ground. After doing some tests for methane and making the appropriate changes the problems were solved and there have been no more methane leaks for decades.
