Sagan Tosu: a team that exceeds expectations
Football is huge in Japan, second only to baseball in popularity. There’s even a manga animation series which features a footballing hero called "Captain Tsubasa". Founded in 1997 from the disbanded Tosu Futures, and based at the Ekimae Real Estate Stadium, Sagan Tosu reached the J1 League in 2015. The club was not expected to sustain its place in the top league, but they worked hard and confounded their critics by doing just that. A game introduced by the Royal Navy
In Japan football is generally called "sakka", which is a derivation of the word "soccer". It was first brought to Japan by the British Royal Navy in 1873, and was taught to Japanese naval cadets by Lieutenant-Commander Archibald Lucius Douglas. The game is currently run by the Japanese Football Association and divided into three divisions of the Japanese Football League: the J1 League, J2 League and J3 League. Other teams in the J1 League include Kashima Antlers, Gamba Osaka and Cerezo Osaka. In 2013 Sagan Tosu reached the final of the The Emperor’s Cup, a competition intended to find the best football club in Japan. The winners wear the Yatagarasu emblem on their shirts for the next season – the distinctive symbol is an "E" above a bird and separated by a line. The first Emperor’s Cup game was held in 1921, making it the longest-running Japanese football competition. Whether you’re watching them battle it out for the prestigious cup or not, experience all the thrills of exciting Japanese League Football when you buy and sell Sagan Tosu tickets on StubHub.
A team that makes dreams come true
Sagan Tosu is a club that aims to "make dreams" – they actively want to be familiar and loved by local crowds. Their logo is a magpie set against a "V for Victory" symbol, and their team colours are bright blue and pink. The "V" of the logo, however, is made up of five different colours, each representing a different continent. The message on the logo is: "True champions in the hearts of all who love Sagantosu. Become a true champion together with everyone who loves Sagantosu." A stirring message indeed, and one you can’t help but fall for.
