The Road to Brazil: A Soccer Fan's Dream Trip
The 2014 FIFA World Cup promises to be one of the biggest events in recent sports history as soccer prepares to return to its spiritual home, Brazil.Event
Thirty-two nations will duke it out for glory over the summer, but thanks to Major League Soccer, you can see the best teams in the world in action right here in the U.S. Road to Brazil series tickets are now on sale, offering you a chance to see teams such as world-champion Spain in a series of tune-up matches.History
The showcase brings together six teams headed to the World Cup, plus four others that narrowly missed out. Players from the Premiership, La Liga, and the Bundeslige will be taking to the pitch to represent their home nations. The main teams participating are:Spain: Is this seemingly indomitable team — champions of Europe and the world — the greatest team of all time? Some people believe they are, and the team will be hoping to prove that in Brazil by retaining their crown. Bosnia-Herzegovina: This national team is appearing at a major tournament for the first time in the nation's history, having finished first in a tough qualifying group.Greece: The 2004 European Champions will be going to Brazil with high hopes, following a club season where Greek clubs were outstanding in the Champions League.Nigeria: The reigning African champions have lit up previous World Cups. Can they do it again in 2014?Ivory Coast: The Ivory Coast has emerged in the last few years as one of the strongest, smartest teams in African soccer. Honduras: The Hondurans had a tough time at the 2010 World Cup, finishing without a single goal. However, they now look stronger than ever in 2014 and will be prepared to settle some scores when they get to Brazil.Joining these six qualifiers are the national teams of Israel, Turkey, Bolivia, and El Salvador, who will be looking to put their rivals to the test.Trivia
The matches will be played under standard FIFA rules for friendlies: 90 minutes with no extra time or penalties, and with the result counting to each team's coefficient in the world rankings. Subs are capped at six per team in international friendlies, so each match is likely to see the majority of that country's World Cup squad take to the field.Spectator Experience
