Rangers FC: Glasgow's Footballing Powerhouse
One half of the collective known as the Old Firm, along with fellow Glaswegian rivals Celtic FC, no other club in the world has won more league titles and trebles than Rangers FC. That's one hell of a statistic! Join the onslaught as this iconic club continues to make history year after year. Rangers FC tickets are now available to buy and sell via StubHub!
How Many Trophies!?
By 2018, Rangers FC had won 54 league titles, 33 Scottish cups and 27 Scottish league cups, winning all three in one season, i.e. the treble, seven times! They also won the European Cup Winner's Cup in 1972, after finishing as runners up twice in 1967 and 1961, where they became the first British club to reach a European final. With as many trophies as this, it's clear that this is a historic football club. It was founded by brothers Peter and Moses McNeil, William McBeath and Peter Campbell in 1872 after the four met at what is now called Kelvingrove Park, in the west end of Glasgow, presumably after a friendly game of football. The club's dominance didn't take long to come into force, although it was initially met with stiff competition. In 1890-91, the first Scottish Football League commenced, in which Rangers finished joint top with Dumbarton. Even after a deciding play-off match, the score couldn't be settled. At 2-2, the title was shared for the first and only time in the league's history. The turn of the 20th century would mark Rangers FC as a prominent team in Scottish football. They had already won two league titles and three Scottish cups… Be a part of this footballing legacy and witness history in the making at every game quickly and easily with Rangers FC tickets now available to buy and sell via StubHub now.
Entering the European Stage
Rangers FC's first real run in Europe came in 1960 and ended in record breaking fashion, but not how you might expect. They lost drastically to Eintracht Frankfurt by 12-4 on aggregate, the biggest loss for a Scottish team so far. Nevertheless, it was easily forgotten the following year, as they made it to the final, just falling short to Italian side Fiorentina. The year 1967 brought another European final and another chance for glory, but the Scots were stopped by German juggernauts FC Bayern Munich and a goal in the last seconds of extra time. Success did eventually come, however, after goals by Rangers FC heroes Colin Stein and Willie Johnston secured a 3-2 victory over FC Dynamo Moscow in 1972. This would be an especially meaningful victory, as players and fans alike remembered the victims of the Ibrox disaster the previous year, where large-scale crushing in a stairwell exit claimed the lives of 66 people at the home stadium. Gone but not forgotten, their names live on in the history of this prestigious club. More domestic and international success continued into the modern era, and Rangers FC remained one of the most exciting clubs in Scottish football.
