Pussycat Dolls were one of the pop and dance musical sensations of the 2000s, led by their charismatic frontwoman, Nicole Scherzinger. To this day, their songs are instantly recognisable and have remained nearly as popular now as they were back when they were released and absolutely dominated the charts. After a hiatus, the band has recently reformed and their shows have been every bit as entertaining as they always were, with their famous blend of mild burlesque with the slickest in new millennium R&B-flavoured pop. An unstoppable worldwide pop phenomenon
As we all know, the Pussycat Dolls were originally a dance ensemble in LA, who focused on burlesque performances more than pop music. However, they were inevitably "spotted", and ended up in a recording studio, where they began churning out some of the biggest hits of their decade. If you were anywhere near a radio station or TV set in 2005, you couldn't have missed this talented troupe, with massive hits like the very provocative "Don't Cha", the funky R&B fest of "Buttons", and the wonderfully sensitive ballad, "I Hate This Part". They became a pop music institution, spawning reality TV shows, Las Vegas burlesque tribute acts and a merchandising empire. They also became one the biggest-selling all-girl acts of all time in the process and various members branched off into spin-off projects like Girlicious and Paradiso Girls, to varying degrees of success. Scherzinger went on to be seen at Formula 1 circuits around the world on the arm of multiple F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, mixing with her peers in the world of global celebrity. A welcome return for the R&B dance pop queens
One of the little known pieces of trivia about the Pussycat Dolls is that solo pop superstar Gwen Stefani gave them their first boost when she was asked by her record company to perform with their latest girl group signing. This soon proved to have been an unnecessary request, as the star power shining from the young outfit was plain to see, having been honed over many years in the cauldron of the LA nightclub scene. Careful management and the band's canny business heads helped them to rise above the fierce competition at the time, especially from the likes of the Sugababes, helped no end by the band teaming up with feted R&B producer, Timbaland. By the time of their farewell "Doll Domination" tour, the phrase had become less of an ambition and more of a fait accompli. They broke up soon after that, with some of the members teaming up with former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on a somewhat less successful musical project. So it's a very welcome return for the queens of R&B dance-pop – you can get your Pussycat Dolls tickets right here on StubHub.
