PGA Championship Schedule
The PGA Championship is where you can always find golf at its absolute pinnacle, as the excitement tends to get cranked up a notch when it comes to the majors. Celebrating its centennial in 2016, the PGA Championship once again will have the type of field that is laden with both established stars and unknowns eager to make an impact on the international stage. The Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, Illinois is the type of unbelievable course that forms the perfect backdrop for all of the top moments of the tournament, ensuring that PGA Championship tickets won't be around for all that long.
In 2015, it was Australian star Jason Day who was able to put together a terrific all-around performance, delivering a masterful three-stroke win over Jordan Spieth at Whistling Straits in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. This time around, it's impossible to guess who is going to be the next great golfer to put it all together and surge to the top of the leaderboard, as a tough course at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota makes for another exciting tournament. PGA Championship tickets continue to be some of the most popular in the golf world, which tends to lead to a major level of electricity in the gallery at this one.
PGA Championship Event Info
To win a tournament of this caliber, a golfer needs to do quite a few things well throughout the course of the tournament, and ultimately a series of clutch shots is usually required to seal the deal. Over the years, iconic golfers like Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tigers Woods and many more have made an enormous impact on the PGA Championship, which has helped to make it a spot to find many of the brightest stars all in one place. Although there are plenty of terrific golf tournaments overall, the PGA Championship is one that regularly draws elite talent from all over the world each summer to some of the greatest courses on American soil.
PGA Championship History
The golf world changed quite a bit in 1916, the year of the inaugural PGA Championship. It wasn't long before the tournament had gained an international reputation, leading to a major uptick in international popularity in the years after WWI wrapped up. Following an era as a match play event, the Championship would switch over to stroke play in 1958 and has since become one of the most celebrated tournaments on the golf calendar. Overall, both Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus have been the most successful, as each golfing icon took down five different PGA Championships during illustrious careers. Not far behind both Hagen and Nicklaus, however, is Tiger Woods, who captured four PGA Championships to make him the most dominant golfer at this tournament in the modern era.
