Pete Tong: put your hands up, make some noise!

Born in the swinging sixties, Pete Tong grew up in Dartford and learned to play the drums during his school days. After stints in various bands, he switched to DJing and made a name for himself around Kent playing parties and weddings. In the '70s, he established a successful radio career, and made his first Radio 1 appearance in 1981. Off the back of his regular slot, he went on to release his series of successful Essential Selection discs – some of the most popular compilations during the British rave revolution of the 1990s.

Moving from Britain to Ibiza in the early 2000s, Tong became the resident DJ at Pascha nightclub. As a producer, he has put together soundtracks for cult classic films including The Beach, Human Traffic and 24 Hour Party People, even inspiring a dance music movie named in his honour: It's All Gone Pete Tong. Recently awarded an MBE for his services to broadcasting and music, it's safe to say that this electro hero is a one of Britain's biggest ever dance DJs.
