The NHRA Dodge Nationals is the penultimate race of the Countdown to the Championship — the quest for the drag racing title. As the last stop leading up to the Auto Club NHRA Finals, the Dodge Nationals is one of the most important races on the schedule. During the regular season, racers must satisfy a certain set of criteria, one of which is a top 10 finish in points, to secure a spot in the Countdown to the Championship. The top racers in Top Fuel, Pro Stock, Funny Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle will then compete for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series championship title in a series of thrilling races. Mello Yello is the top division of the NHRA. Since the race is the culmination of the season, the results count toward the overall championship standings. NHRA races are divided up into several different classes, depending on the power to weight ratio and the nature of the vehicle. The classes determine the rules and regulations of the race. The main four Mello Yello categories are Top Fuel (the fastest sanctioned cars), Funny Car (shorter wheelbase and carbon fiber body), Pro Stock (which has a tube-like chassis and four-link rear suspension) and Pro Stock Motorcycle. Along with Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car and a few others, they constitute a single class of vehicles. As the second NHRA race of the year at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Dodge Nationals should provide a cooler experience than the earlier April race. The 2020 Dodge Nationals is scheduled to take place between Oct. 29 and Nov. 1, 2020. Races are held continuously throughout the day in each class, but the exact schedule will be determined closer to the start of the event.What were the results of the 2019 NHRA Dodge Nationals?
The 2019 edition of the fan-favorite event featured several notable performances. Brittany Force set the national NHRA speed record of 338.17 mph on her way to victory in Top Fuel. She also set a track ET record of 3.659 seconds. Other winners included Matt Hagan in Funny Car, Erica Enders with Pro Stock, Matt Smith in Pro Stock Motorcycle, Duane Shields in Top Alcohol Dragster, Sean Bellemeur in Top Alcohol Funny Car, Cody Lane in Competition Eliminator, Jason DeForrest in Super Stock, Craig Maddox in Stock Eliminator, Vernon Rowland in Super Comp, Ray Miller III in Super Gas and Steve Jackson in Pro Mod. The Strip at Las Vas Motor Speedway, or LVMS for short, is one of the most famous drag strips on the NHRA schedule. Featuring a quarter-mile drag strip and a quarter-mile shutdown lane, LVMS holds the distinction of being one of two drag strips in the US with four-wide racing. With some of the fastest speeds in all of drag racing, the vehicles typically exceed 330 mph on the strip.
