The first and second rounds take place at 16 campus locations that are not predetermined. Four teams compete in single-elimination first rounds. The two winning teams then compete against each other in single-elimination second rounds at the same location. The remaining 16 winning teams advance to the regionals, which are held at four non-predetermined campus locations. Four teams compete in single-elimination regional semifinals at each location; then the two winners at each campus compete against each other in single-elimination regional finals. The Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament begins with a field of 64 teams, 32 of which are automatically qualified.
