Mika - Enjoying A Decade in the Charts
After childhood moves from Beirut to Paris to London, Penniman quickly immersed himself in music. He became proficient at the piano, attending Westminster School and the Royal College of Music, where he was trained by Russian Opera professional Alla Ardakov. By 2006, he'd launched his career, making waves with debut single 'Relax, Take it Easy' and follow up 'Grace Kelly' - which gave him his first number one in the UK charts the next year. Debut album Life in Cartoon Motion was a phenomenon, with critics comparing it to work by the likes of Freddie Mercury, Elton John and the Scissor Sisters.
The Boy Who Knew Too Much came out in 2009, earning praise for its brave exploration of the singer's adolescence, before switching to a electronic dance sound for The Origin of Love in 2012. A hiatus from his recording career followed, but the gifted linguist used the time to accept roles as a judge on The X Factor in Italy and as a mentor on the French version of The Voice. Resuming his musical aspirations in 2015 with No Place in Heaven, he found chart success once again and announced a number of celebratory live dates.
