The University of Michigan football team has a long and illustrious history that intertwines with the development of American football itself. Since the team played its first game in 1879 against Racine College, Michigan has recorded more all-time wins than anyone else in college football. In the early 20th century, the team won multiple national championships under the guidance of head coach Fielding Yost, who set a mark of 56 straight wins. Head coach and Hall of Fame inductee Bo Schembechler led the team to its greatest sustained success between 1969 and 1989 with 194 regular season wins. Michigan's famous venue also constitutes part of its mythology. In 1927, the team moved from the former Ferry Field to its current venue, Michigan Stadium, on South Main Street. Michigan Stadium has long held the title as the largest stadium in the country. It was briefly superseded by Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium in 1996 but regained the title two years later following renovations. Michigan Stadium has an official seating capacity of 107,601, which it fills up for most home games. However, the capacity of the stadium can be expanded as necessary. Michigan’s official record attendance is more than 115,000. The stadium features both standard bench seating and premium seating options, including suites and theater-style chairs. The Jack Roth Stadium Club includes more than 3,000 seats spread out across an indoor and outdoor club along the east portion of the stadium. The student section, which is only available to those with a student ticket and a valid student ID, is found through Gate 10.What is a Michigan Wolverines game like?
Michigan Stadium works hard to cultivate an appealing collegiate atmosphere. Before the start of the game, fans are allowed to engage in tailgating and other festivities. Around kickoff time, the football team makes its famous entrance under the M Club banner as the Michigan marching band plays. During the game itself, fans are entertained by the marching band and the cheerleading squad. How is the tailgating scene at Michigan Stadium?
Tailgating is permitted on most parking lots around the stadium beginning from the time they open up around 6 to 8 am on the day of the game. Unless you have a reserved space, however, parking is only available on a first-come, first-served basis, so you should plan your tailgating activities accordingly. If you have an RV and any related equipment, then suitable parking is available at the blue lot, the brown lot and the Pioneer High School lot. Tailgaters are expected to follow the University of Michigan policies. Equipment must remain in its designated space and not impede traffic. Generators are allowed at a minimum of 25 feet away from other structures around the lot.Who are the Michigan Wolverines’ biggest rivals?
The Michigan Wolverines share a legendary rivalry with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The intensity of the rivalry reached its peak during the Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes years between 1969 and 1978, when it was dubbed The Ten Year War. Michigan’s other rivalries include Michigan State and Notre Dame. The Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State, who are located about an hour from each other, compete every year in the Big Ten for the Paul Bunyan trophy. What is Michigan’s schedule for 2019?
The Michigan Wolverines play Middle Tennessee, Army and Notre Dame out of conference. The team’s in-conference schedule includes Iowa, Rutgers, Michigan State and Ohio State at home and Wisconsin, Illinois, Penn State, Maryland and Indiana on the road.Back to TopEpic events and incredible deals straight to your inbox.
