Michael Bolton: from heavy metal to heartfelt classics

Focusing on hard rock in his early career, Bolton's first band Blackjack once opened for heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne on tour, while, in 1983, Bolton auditioned for the open lead vocalist position with Osbourne's former band, Black Sabbath. He gained his first major hit as a songwriter, co-writing "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" for Laura Branigan, before a series of easy listening classics brought him his greatest success in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Probably best known for his hit cover of Percy Sledge's "When A Man Loves a Woman", taken from his 16 million selling, UK number two album Time, Love & Tenderness, Bolton is currently completing a feature documentary film American Dream: Detroit which pays homage to the Motorcity and is set for release later in 2018. An award-winning singer and writer, Bolton has won two Grammys for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance, six American Music Awards, and has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As a songwriter, he has earned over two dozen awards, including Songwriter of the Year and the Hitmakers Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
