Established in 1965, the Miami Dolphins have the distinction of being the oldest pro sports team in the state of Florida. Before the team came on the scene and started playing officially in 1966, this part of Florida had not had a professional franchise for football since the defunct Miami Seahawks. By the 1971 season, the Dolphins appeared in their first Super Bowl but lost to the Dallas Cowboys. However, the Miami Dolphins came back for a perfect 17-0 season the following year and took home the next Super Bowl trophy. To this date, that remains the last undefeated season by an NFL team. Amazingly, Miami returned to the title game the following year, becoming the first to appear in three consecutive Super Bowls. Another feud within the division comes from the Buffalo Bills, and this competitive spirit is largely due to stark differences in the cultures of both cities. This rivalry heavily favored the Dolphins during the 1970s when the team won all 20 games it played against the Bills. Finally, the Miami Dolphins also have a competition going with the New England Patriots. Since all of the teams in the AFC East play each other at least twice a year, the rivalries are quite strong.
