Marseille is a harbour city on the southern coast of France, bracketed by two other major cities in the general area, Nice and Montpellier. It's a multicultural city like most ports, so you can enjoy a mind-boggling mixture of experiences and events when you're here. From pop music festivals, electro to hip-hop, from ballet to opera – virtually every possible musical entertainment taste is catered for. It's also an important artistic destination, with a number of significant art galleries that you can visit. Over the years it has also established itself as a major centre for Gay Pride activities, making it an even more welcoming city. Explore the many avenues and alleys of intriguing Marseille – you can buy or sell Marseille event tickets on StubHub.
Music is the heartbeat of Marseille
As well as being such a cultural hive, Marseille is also a very sporting city, with rugby and football its main pursuits. Make your way to Orange Velodrome to watch the city's main football team Olympique de Marseille in action. You can also catch large rock concerts there in the off-season. For an absolute soaking in international and local music, visit the city during the national Fête de la Musique, and for the anoraks, Marsatac has become one of the premier-while-still-obscure electronica events in the world. Marseille event tickets will definitely have to include one of these activities. For ballet, don't miss the opportunity to attend performances of the city's most eminent company, Ballet National de Marseille.
Marseille celebrates the opera
Marseille has always hosted massive rock concerts where international stars have conquered the French Riviera, and it's been a favourite city to play for everyone from Alice Cooper to Deep Purple to Radiohead. To cope with increasing numbers of fans, the city built its largest outdoor arena, Le Dome Marseilles. On entirely the opposite end of the spectrum, visit Théâtre Silvain Marseille, which offers a small glimpse into the city's theatre scene. However, to experience performances that have really made the city's reputation, go to what is simply known as Opéra. You'll find these venues on StubHub when you're ready to book your Marseille event tickets.
Travelling along the French Riviera
Marseille has some interesting towns and cities nearby, most notably, for history buffs, Nimes. It's also the place to go for open air music concerts at one of its most beautiful arenas, the Arena de Nimes. Or you can visit one of France's most famous rugby cities, such as Montpellier – a Top 14 match is always worth watching, particularly if it's a derby game. If you're visiting Marseille, you'll feel forever guilty if you don't venture a little further to Cannes, where you may be lucky enough to get tickets to a smaller showing at its fabled film festival. Otherwise, there's the international MIDEM music festival. Check out StubHub for tickets at the right times.
