Maroon 5: chart-topping hitmakers

The band first got together in 1994 under the name of Kara's Flowers, when Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick were at high school in Los Angeles. They released one album, 1997's The Fourth World, before going on hiatus to attend college. The group reconvened in 2001, added guitarist James Valentine to the line-up and taking on their new moniker Maroon 5.

Debut album Songs About Jane made them one of the biggest soft-pop bands in the world, before eventually going on to win the Best New Artist Grammy Award, in 2005. Follow-up album It Won't Be Soon Before Long proved it wasn't a one-off, as did 2010's Hands All Over, and 2012's Overexposed. It was their 2014 album V, however, that propelled them to arena stages across the world off the back of insatiably catchy hits such as "Sugar" and "This Summer". The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart and number four in the UK, before sixth studio album Red Pill Blues in 2017.
