There are still plenty of big time games scheduled to take place at Verizon Wireless Arena in Oxford this season and the Monarchs are going to be looking to get all of the support they can as they embark on a quest to return to the AHL playoffs. On January 18th the Worcester Sharks come to town for a game that both teams will be looking to win to enhance there chances of playing in the postseason. The final home game of the season will take place on April 18th when the Worcester Sharks make a return trip to Manchester. This will be your last chance to see the Monarchs in action before they head off to the post season so be sure to come out and show them some love. Since the Monarchs were founded in 2001 the have been the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and have quickly become an elite team while developing intense rivalries with the rest of the AHL. Manchester has won two regular season titles and three division championships and this season seem to have a capable enough core of returning starters long with talent and experience to make some real noise in the AHL. Head coach Mike Stothers has a talented group of returning players that should help the Monarchs soar to new heights by the end of the season. If the Monarchs can bring it all together for the rest of the season it will be hard for any other AHL team to be able to keep pace with Manchester's high octane offense. These are exciting times for Manchester and their fans as the Monarchs appear poised for some big things and are ready to establish themselves as one of the elite teams in AHL.

The American Hockey League, or the AHL, is the premiere minor league hockey league in the United States and Canada and since the 2011 season each team has an affiliation with an NHL team assuring the fans that some of the best minor league players in the country all looking to stand out from the crowd to move up to the pro ranks. The AHL has a strong tradition that dates all the way back to the 1930′s with the Hershey Bears standing as the most decorated franchise as far as Calder Cups are concerned. The league has its own hall of fame and features outdoor games and all star games each season along with its playoffs and championship.
Hockey fans in general are some of the most passionate sports fans around, but there is nothing that quite equals the passion surrounding minor league hockey and Manchester Monarchs fans are among the loudest and most dedicated fans in the entire AHL. On game day at Verizon Wireless Arena, the fans file in and take their seats when the cheering and chanting begins. As the clock winds down closer and closer to the dropping of the puck the crowd works itself into a frenzy. Finally both teams are ready for face off and the excitement really begins. Big time bone rattling hits, astounding displays of agility and speed, powerful slapshots, and clutch saves set the arena on fire for the following three periods of top notch minor league hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip.
So far the most successful season the Manchester Monarchs have enjoyed was in 2006-2007 when they scored the second most points in the league and won the Atlantic Division title. That year they were led by first year head coach Mark Morris who benefited from the goaltending of Jason LaBarbera as well as the scoring of Noah Clarke and Matt Moulson.
