Lafayette Leopards Football TicketsWhen looking at college football teams that have been around for over 135 years, there will not be too many eligible competitors. The Lafayette Leopards, however, certainly meet that criteria as one of the oldest programs in the entire nation. Painted with maroon and white, the Leopards play in the Division I Football Championship of the NCAA. They compete as a part of the Patriot League, along with other independent schools and two military programs. Given the Lafayette's lengthy history, they further have a track record with four other conferences where they competed between 1882 and 1986. In addition to seven conference titles, they were given three claimed national championships for 1986, 1921 and 1926. This was because of long winning streaks and sheer dominance when it came to the college football scene at the time. Although they still have an overall winning record, the last few of their seasons have been quite rough. Courtesy of the passionate Easton fans, however, the attendance and support are not exactly indicative of their struggling status. Where do the Lafayette Leopards play? The Leopards compete at Lehigh Mountain Hawks, Penn Quakers and Bucknell Bison. Fortunately for the lovers of solid college football, there will be matchups with all three of these schools in 2019. The Penn Quakers will start it off by coming to Easton and facing off with the Leopards at the end of September. About a month later, Lafayette will welcome Bucknell in a rematch from the last season where the Leopards won with 29 to 27. Finally, the Mountain Hawks are going to host the Leopards in the last game of the regular season. Have you ever wondered about what the most-played rivalry in the entire NCAA Division I football is? If so, you probably know that it is between Lehigh and Lafayette who have a total of 154 games. This is why watching this matchup take place in November will be a classic way to end the season.
Who is the Lafayette Leopards' head coach? The Leopards' head coach is John Garrett. He has been with the program since 2017. Before becoming a coach in the NCAA, Garrett spent four years as a member of four different NFL teams. Since 1995, however, he has been everything from an offensive coordinator to wide receiver, tight end and quarterback coach. He even had some administrative roles and worked as a scout at one point in 2003. Since he came to lead the Leopards, however, he has been struggling practically each of his three seasons as his winning efficiency dropped to 27%.
What was the Lafayette Leopards record last season? In 2018, the Leopards won a total of three games and lost eight. Their home performance was quite underwhelming as they lost 80% of all matchups and only won one game in front of the local fan base. The final weeks of the season carried three consecutive losses that certainly put a strain on the program and forced a lot of people to wonder what changes will follow.
