Kevin Johansen Tickets
The Pan-American rock explorations of Kevin Johansen
Kevin Johansen is a world traveller, not only physically, but also in terms of the cultural territory he covers in his music. His songs have been described as Argentinian-American new pop, as he combines all types of Pan-American musical genres, from Cuban to Uruguayan to US country, and distils it all into his own form of pop rock. His lyrics contain sharp, insightful and often witty social and cultural commentary. With songs like "Barry White Meets Nirvana", you're in for quite a ride when you get Kevin Johansen tickets, which you can buy or sell with equal ease on StubHub.
Cutting his teeth in Latin rock bands
Kevin Johansen was born in Alaska, but at the age of 12, a life-changing move with his parents to Buenos Aires set the musical template that he would follow. He started playing rock music with bands when he was around 14 years old and pursued this for most of the 1980s, gaining valuable live stage experience that would stand him in good stead when his career took a seriously professional turn in the 1990s. Most notable among these was Instrucción Cívica, a band he formed with close friend Julian Benjamin. After releasing a brace of albums, they broke up, and the stage was set for Johansen to embark on a solo career in earnest. The catalyst for his break in the US was the legendary New York club owner, Hilly Kristal, of CBGB fame, who signed him to a residency that lasted a good few years. Only after he had this under his belt did he record and release his first album with a new band, The Nada. By this stage, his wide musical experience had crystallised into a sound that comfortable blended pop rock with funk and dollops of various Latin American musical forms. So if you're a fan of artists like Manu Chao, then Kevin Johansen tickets will be just up your alley.
Latin Grammys and Latin pop rock collaborations
It was a few years later that Kevin Johansen started his solo career, and this was the path that proved to be his true destiny. His breakthrough album, "Sur o no Sur" was released worldwide, and it really took off in South America. In 2003, he filled some of the largest venues in Buenos Aires, then went on to Barcelona and Madrid, briefly interrupting his tour to play at the MTV Latino awards show. From there, it was off to the US music capitals and an extended tour of South American countries. The hard work paid off in the form of three Latin Grammy Awards nominations for Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Music Video. He has collaborated with several other Latin pop rock musicians as well, particularly on his more tongue in cheek songs, like the aforementioned "Barry White" number, and a satirical comment on the commercialisation of historical liberation movement leaders in "Mc Guevara's o Che McDonalds", which probably doesn't need translating to get the gist. These include releases with artists such as Jorge Drexler and Silvina Moreno. So one thing is abundantly clear – you're in for an absolute treat when you buy Kevin Johansen tickets on StubHub.
