Kehlani Tickets
Kehlani is one of the breakthrough R&B artists of the moment. The young female singer has received rave reviews for her debut album You Should Be Here, and her fan base is growing thanks to her energetic live shows.
Schedule
While Kehlani has toured previously with rapper G-Eazy, she has now teamed up to tour with Pell, a talented and popular rapper and R&B singer. They are slated to play Lincoln Hall in Chicago, Illinois before continuing on to perform at the Shelter in Detroit, Michigan. Following these dates they continue their journey throughout North America with shows in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They will even pop over to Honolulu, Hawaii for an appearance before wrapping things up at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
Trivia
Kehlani might be a sultry R&B star now, but she got her first taste of the limelight as the lead singer of a teen pop-rock band called PopLyfe. They made the finals in the 2011 series of TV talent contest America's Got Talent. They ended up placing fourth, after performing a medley of songs by the British rock band Queen. At the time, Kehlani had a short, colourful hairstyle and dressed in punk-inspired outfits. While her music has changed significantly since then, her performance ability and strong vocals were clear from a young age.
Band/singer
Kehlani's full name is Kehlani Parrish, and she grew up in Oakland, California. There, she was a student of the Oakland School for the Arts, where she met her PopLyfe band mates. She writes her own songs and likes to be honest about her personal life in her lyrics. She has a mixed ethnic background of including African American, Caucasian, Native American, Spanish, and Filipino. Her childhood was difficult as her father died when she was young and her mother struggled with drug addiction, but Kehlani focused on her music as an escape from the hard times.
Breakthrough
Through taking part in America's Got Talent, Kehlani met presenter Nick Cannon. A rapper himself, Nick spotted her talent and offered to help Kehlani however he could. She began recording music in the studio, and released her first mixtape, Cloud 19, in 2014. The response was fantastic, as it received rave reviews from influential websites such as Pitchfork, Vice and Billboard. The buzz led to Kehlani signing a record deal with world-famous major label Atlantic Records in 2015.
Hit albums
Kehlani released her first album, You Should Be Here, in April 2015. It saw instant success, as the newcomer found herself at #1 on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart, and #2 on the R&B Albums and Current R&B Albums chart. In the Billboard charts, it was the highest R&B debut of the week. But it's not only in terms of sales that the album has been a success. Reviewers have applauded Kehlani's mature abilities and predicted huge things for her future. Billboard described the record as "the year's first great R&B album".
Show experience
Kehlani is front and centre in her live show, with her impressive vocals and performance abilities demanding the crowd's attention. As her music is powered by electronic beats, she performs with a DJ rather than a live band, and is accompanied by dancers. Kehlani is an energetic and talented dancer herself, something she brings to all of her shows. With her quality vocals, sincere and down-to-earth lyrics, and bubbly personality, Kehlani is a pleasure to see live and will leave audiences smiling.
