Imagining Shakespeare wildly differently with & Juliet
No, that's not a typo or a cut-off title. The musical & Juliet is a theatre imagining of what would have happened if Juliet hadn't killed herself in Shakespeare's play. This show is certainly not like any classical production of the bard's immortal work – it's no Romeo and Juliet Rome, for instance. In fact, it's a world apart from that, as you'll find out if you buy or sell & Juliet tickets on StubHub.
Classical romantic drama meets chart-topping pop hits
& Juliet was written by Max Martin and David West Read. Anyone who's familiar with the behind-the-scenes workings of the pop music song writing industry will probably have done a bit of a double take at the former name. Yes, it's the very same producer and songwriter who was behind the early careers of Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys, as well as a slew of other superstars, from Katy Perry to Taylor Swift. He's won more awards than you can count on the combined hands of these artists, and more recently has penned hit songs for Ed Sheeran. Which means that you have a cast iron guarantee of one thing when you buy & Juliet tickets: the music will be some of the finest pop the world has ever heard. The entire show is set to hits from the aforementioned artists, so you're getting two for the price of one with & Juliet tickets, with a reimagining of one of Shakespeare's romantic stories and a jukebox full of chart smash hits to dance away to.
A preteen musical for everyone
& Juliet debuted at the Manchester Opera House and, before moving on to the West End, opened at Shaftesbury Theatre. Directed by Luke Shepherd, it features characters from Shakespeare's original, including Nurse, Romeo and Juliet. It also introjects Shakespeare himself as a character, along with his wife, who isn't named in her own right, but simply referred to as "Mrs Shakespeare". But don't think that this is a sentimental or maudlin extension of the original play. This is about teen girl power, so it has plenty of humour and a whole lot of typical preteen drama. Suffice to say, it's a brilliant pastiche of teenage Millennial pop culture that turns the classic tale of star-crossed lovers into an adolescent self-affirmation riot-fest in the sweetest way possible. It's exceptionally clever and very entertaining stuff. Not only is this a world apart from the original, it's a world unto itself. You don't even need to be a Shakespeare fan or to know the story to enjoy this cheeky comedy musical. With & Juliet tickets everyone can get in on the fun. Get them now on StubHub.
