Jaya the Cat Tickets
"Jaya the Cat Tickets
A Netherlands-based ska and punk band, Jaya the Cat produce infectious tracks to get listeners up on their feet and dancing. The group's music features a heavy dose of reggae with hints of hip hop and R&B.
Schedule
Jaya the Cat rose to prominence as a result of their busy tour schedule; the band continue to tour extensively to this day. Following an appearance at Manchester's Ruby Lounge, the group will move on to Harlow for a concert at The Square.
Trivia
The members of Jaya the Cat love breaking the ice with their fans at live shows, which is why, on some occasions, they've set up bars on stage. This unique approach encourages those with Jaya the Cat tickets to stand in front and interact with the band, instead of hiding out at a bar in the back of the venue. The name Jaya the Cat is believed to be the namesake of a cat that travelled in a van with the band's original lineup. When describing his current home of Amsterdam, Geoff Lagadec -- a self-avowed lover of felines -- has likened it to the place where his cat lives.
Band/Singer
Originating in Boston but currently based in the Netherlands, Jaya the Cat combine ska, reggae and punk music to great effect. The group's current lineup includes founding member, Geoff Lagadec, in addition to newer members Karl Smith, Dino Memic, David Germain and Jan Jaap Onverwagt.
Breakthrough
After recording their first album, O'Farrell, Jaya the Cat scored a record deal with Gold Circle Records. The band then recorded their first major release, Basement Style. The album's upbeat grooves attracted a modicum of attention along the East Coast of the United States, but it proved far more popular in Europe. In the aftermath of this successful release, Jaya the Cat toured extensively in Europe, where they were deemed an integral part of the region's ska revival.
Hit Album
In earlier days, Jaya the Cat recorded an album known as O'Farrell. This record featured the cheerful melodies and punk edge that would eventually make the band a hit, but it was not officially released until well over a decade later. Instead, the band's first big hit was Basement Style, a combination of street-style reggae and clever lyrics. This was followed by The Beer Of A New Day, a unique ska and punk fusion that helped the band gain a cult following in Europe, and More Late Night Transmissions With... in which the band tackled a more laid-back style. Following the re-release of The Beer Of A New Day, Jaya the Cat returned with The New International Sound Of Hedonism, an introspective album. Despite its occasionally dark subject matter, The New International Sound always manages to maintain an upbeat feel.
Show Experience
Jaya the Cat produce happy music and even happier audience members at their cheery live performances. The band's members love interacting with their fans, often pausing between numbers to share silly anecdotes. The sets at Jaya the Cat's live shows are relatively simple, with bright lighting in warm tones used to enhance the already positive vibe brought about by the band's cheerful music.
