Jason Donovan Biography - From Soaps to the Stage
This born-performer entered the world of showbiz from a young age, taking on his first role in TV series Skyways in 1980. In what seems to be a twist of fate his on-screen sister was played by his future Neighbours co-star Kylie Minogue. After a few more minor parts, he won a starring role in Australian soap opera Neighbours as Scott Robinson and later entered into an on-screen romance with fellow Australian darling Kylie Minogue.
He embarked on his pop career towards the tail end of his stint on Neighbours and released his top five charting debut single 'Nothing Can Divide Us' in 1988. However it was his next single - a duet with co-star Minogue - that earned him international acclaim. 'Especially for You' spent four weeks at number two in the UK singles charts before reaching the top spot in January 1989 - an achievement he replicated with his next hit 'Too Many Broken Hearts'.
His light-hearted, feel-good brand of pop set him in good stead for a spot on the West End stage when in 1991 he accepted the starring role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The leading track of which ('Any Dream Will Do') saw him score yet another number one hit. He proved to have a natural aptitude for West End musicals, going on to perform in the likes of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Sweeney Todd.
The pop-turned-theatre star has secured his lasting place in the showbiz canon with his seemingly endless stream of talents. Now a DJ on Heart Radio, the singer makes a triumphant return to music venues across the UK in 2016 with his Ten Good Reasons and Greatest Hits Tour.
