Iowa 300 TicketsWhen the NTT IndyCar Series visits the Iowa Speedway, some of the fastest cars in the world meet "The Fastest Short Track on the Planet." At 7/8-mile length, the IndyCar racers routinely gobble up a lap on the track in under 18 seconds. IndyCar has been coming to Iowa Speedway since 2007 when Dario Franchitti won the race then known as the Iowa Corn Indy 250 Presented by Ethanol. Since then, Ryan Hunter-Reay leads all drivers with three Iowa 300 wins. Franchitti, James Hinchcliffe and Josef Newgarden have each tamed the world's fastest short track twice. Hunter-Reay owns the pole speed record for this race after he turned in a lap of 186.256 mph in 2014. Hinchcliffe ran the fastest overall speed when he averaged 149.737 for the entire race in 2018. Hinchcliffe and Newgarden won the Iowa 300 races in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Grab your Iowa 300 tickets at StubHub.
How is the racing at Iowa Speedway?IndyCar racing at Iowa is very fast yet quite safe. No IndyCar race at Iowa Speedway has recorded a pole speed of less than 180 mph. Over the course of 13 events, race speeds have averaged just under 135 mph, yet the Iowa 300 usually sees just 4.7 caution incidents per race. Starting position is important at Iowa, as seven of the 13 races have been won from a top-five starting spot. Marco Andretti is the lowest-starting Iowa 300 winner. He started 17th before taking the win in 2011. Iowa Speedway recognizes the physical and mental strain placed on drivers who have to turn 300 laps at those speeds. The entire track is surrounded by a second-generation SAFER Barrier. Created by IndyCar officials in collaboration with safety scientists at the University of Nebraska, the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) Barrier is designed to soften the impact of high-energy crashes. Iowa was the first track to install the barrier around the entire perimeter of its track.
Who won the 2019 Iowa 300?Josef Newgarden started third and dominated the 2019 Iowa 300, leading 245 of the event's 300 laps. Spencer Pigot started 21st before he surged to a fifth-place finish. Will Power started second and led 49 laps but faded to a 15th place finish. The race saw seven lead changes among five drivers. There were four caution periods after the race started under caution conditions and the yellow flag flew at lap 51 due to rain. Ed Carpenter, Takuma Sato and Sage Karam left the race due to crashes.
